Expect Like It's Your Birthday! Print E-mail

Most people expect some sort of gift on their birthday. Even if it is something as simple as a card wishing them well for seeing another year, everyone wants something for their birthday. But, if you talk to a child, they are talking about their birthday long before it comes. They tell everybody they run into what they expect to get and what they want. It may be the latest toy or the anticipation of their party on that day. They tell their friends. They tell their friends’ parents. They tell strangers if they so happen to run into someone that looks friendly enough to care about their upcoming birthday. The day has not even come yet, but they have a spirit of excitement and anticipation that what they have asked for will be given to them on that special day.

The same should be true with us in our faith walk with God. We pray. We fast. We pay our tithes and offering faithfully. But yet somehow, some of us still live life in defeat. We can’t see how God is going to pay the bills we have stacked up on the dining room table. It seems like everyone around us is getting the more abundant blessings and we just stumble upon the leftover crumbs from God. We lose our home or job and suddenly, God has vanished. I like to argue that God has not gone anywhere; your level of expectation has.

God is more than well able to do anything we could ask or think according to His divine purpose for our lives. But after so much of turmoil and strife coming into our lives, we no longer expect God to do anything miraculous for us. We don’t expect Him to show up in our situations. We don’t expect healing from past hurts and strongholds because He hasn’t done it up until this point, so why would He do it now? I like to believe a positive attitude of a person living in poverty can catapult them into prosperity, solely because of their attitude toward their current situation, their mindset, and their will to have something better. If you don’t expect God to do anything in your life, why should He? You think you are waiting on God, but He’s simply waiting on you to expect it.

Wake up daily with a spirit of expectancy. Expect God to do something awesome and out of the ordinary in your life today and every day. Live each day looking and searching for God in every situation. Even though you may have a daily routine, God can add surprises along the way. When you have a spirit of expectancy, you keep your mind stayed on Jesus, not your problems. You should be seeking to find out what God is going to miraculously do for you today? We should expect great things because God has promised great things for them that keep His commandments. Take your example from children. They always expect something! So today and every day, expect God to show up and show out like it's your birthday!

Be forever encouraged!
